BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. (AP) -- The search has been suspended for a 24-year-old Colorado woman who was caught in flood waters earlier this month near Highway 85 in northern Butte County.

Kristen Lakin has been missing since June 17. Lakin, of Grand Junction, was traveling south on Highway 85 from North Dakota with her friend Roxanne Bleibaum.

Butte County Sheriff Fred Lamphere says the 54-year-old Bleibaum was able to walk back to the highway the same day and has been reunited with her family.

Lamphere says countless searches have been conducted for Lakin. He feels the chances of her having survived are slim. He says the search is now considered a recovery mission.  (AP-WF-06-29-14 1723GMT)
