Tornado Confirmed South of Gillette Today


 A tornado was sighted 19 miles southwest of Gillette, Wyoming, this afternoon. It was reported at 4:55 pm by law enforcement officers. It was brief and weakened quickly, and by 5:18 pm, the tornado warning was canceled. And four minutes later, the storm was no longer even in the severe category. A severe storms is defined as one that produces 1" hail, or larger, or winds over 58 mph.

The photo of the tornado was taken by Tamara Filcaske as she ran for cover in the basement of her home. Her son reports that the tornado was headed toward her house, but dissipated before doing any damage.
