KOTA Territory hay producers say they are thankful for the rain

Posted:

All the spring rain showers have been great for KOTA Territory hay producers! The damp winter and spring spurred an increase in plant growth.

Rancher Chris Grubl says his hay yield this season is 20 percent above average. Last year he grew just half the average amount. "There's so much this year, you know we're getting two and a half ton to the acre, last year we got barely a ton," said Grubl. "The year before that we have a quarter of a ton so we're pretty excited about it, quality is good."

But its not all good news.  With the heavy rains and hail, crops can be damaged; and the rain can slow producer's cutting.
