Downtown delis used to be a staple in American culinary culture but over the past couple of decades, they've disappeared from city streets.
Sometimes, they make a comeback.
Such is the case with the Hippo Steve Pistache in downtown Rapid City's Sixth Street, between Kansas City and Saint Joseph streets.
Hippo Steve Pistache started serving sandwiches, salads and treats last Friday. The sandwiches feature a variety of handmade banana bread, lemon poppy seed bread; and many other kinds.
They plan to keep their new menu rolling and changing. On top of that, they will have different featured sandwiches for summer months and different featured soups for winter months.
Co-owner Ben Wilke says they had a great turn out for their unofficial opening.
