AGC's first construction academy in Rapid City

by Barrett Phillips

Matching high school students' education with the skills necessary for 21st jobs isn't always easy.

That's one of the reasons the Associated General Contractors of South Dakota have a construction academy in Rapid City this week.  The 15 students selected for the academy at Central High School will learn everything from construction safety to measurement standards.

Ben Holst, Director of Workforce for AGC, said these students are learning skills they will use forever. "They're going to take away the hands on experience of having built something simple they can then take, grow, and build on top of," Holst said.

To top it off, the students also earn college credit.
