State Rodeo a big plus for Belle Fourche's local business

High School State rodeo kicked off Friday. For nearly a decade, the competition has brought about 1,500 people to Belle Fourche each year.

Clay Birkeland, host committee member for SDHSRA, says while participants get a lot out of the competition so do its sponsors and local businesses.
"We generally qualify 325 to 335 contestants each year, they bring five family members consequently it brings 1,500 plus people to town every year for five days, which we think is a very good for our local business," said Birkeland.

General Manager of the AmericInn Lodge and Suites, Stacey Raisanen, says they are always full when the high school rodeo finals come around.  "We are very busy during the state finals," said Raisanen. "We are the host hotel for the committee, we work very closely with them getting ready for this, making sure everybody is accommodated."

The rodeo continues Saturday and Sunday.
