Part of Interstate 29 closed due to flooding

Heavy rains and flooding have led to the partial closures of major thoroughfares in South Dakota, redirecting tourism and industry traffic.

A section of Interstate 29 between Sioux City, Iowa, and Vermillion has been closed. Crews are working to build up a levee near Exit 4 on the highway to prevent some flooding. Flood waters have also blocked many roads between southeast South Dakota and Iowa.

The detour around I–29 sends southbound travelers along I–90 in Minnesota, I–35 through Iowa and back east on I–80. Northbound travelers would take the same highways in reverse order.
