55 witnesses to testify in Matthew Tornquist trial

The July trial for a Hot Springs man accused of killing his mother is on track to start on July 7.
The state turned in its list of 55 witnesses to testify against 28-year-old Matthew Tornquist.
During a very informal hearing Monday afternoon in Seventh Circuit Court, the state prosecutor Matt Brown said the case may require expert witnesses that will have to fly in to Rapid City.

Because of the number of witnesses and the large jury pool needed for this type of case, the trial has been moved to the Pennington County Courthouse.

Jury selection is expected to begin on July 7 with opening statements tentatively scheduled for the July 8.

Tornquist is charged with killing his mother, Catherine Tornquist. She disappeared in October 2011. Her body has never been found.
If convicted, he'll serve a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole.
