Black Hills BBQ Festival fires up this weekend

If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, grab your appetite and head over to the Central State Fairground in Rapid City. That’s where the 4th annual Black Hills BBQ is going on.

The 3-day event will feature plenty of fun things for the whole family including great food, great music, a carnival, mud run, mud volleyball, and a bean bag toss. There’s also an amateur BBQ cook off.

But, of course, the big attraction is the food.

General Manager Ron Jefferies says 3 professional "ribbers" will be on hand, serving up their specialties from briskets to ribs.

“What you really need to do is try the barbeque. Come get a sample plate from each of the 3 barbecuer’s and then share it with a few people. It’s a great way to experience each vendor and then fill yourself up with as much barbecue as you can eat,” Jefferies said.

Mark Grant, owner of the Porky Chicken BBQ in Fayetteville, Arkansas, is here for the 2nd time. He said he loves coming to the Black Hills.

“We have pork spare rib, St. Louis-style. We have beef briskets, pulled pork, chicken, turkey legs, pretty much any barbecue you want," Grant said.

The festival is open Friday until midnight and runs through Sunday.

Admission is free all weekend.
