Rapid City State Senate candidate David Johnson files for recount

Only 30 votes separated state senate District 33 candidates incumbent Phil Jensen and challenger David Johnson in the primary election. So, a recount will happen Monday June 23rd.

Since there was a margin less than two percent, Johnson had the option of a recount. He filed petitions in both Meade and Pennington county Thursday.
Lori Severson, election supervisor for Pennington County said Friday that recounts don't happen often. "It's very unusual to have a recount most of our elections are wider than that two percent margin so they don't qualify for a recount," said Severson.

Pennington County Auditor Julie Pearson said the voting machines are very accurate, so it's unlikely that 30 or more votes were counted wrong.
