Feeding South Dakota exceeds $2 million capital campaign goal

By Barrett Phillips

Feeding South Dakota marked one of its biggest days in history Wednesday.
The statewide organization has exceeded its $2 million fundraising goal.

The "Hand-to-Hand" capital campaign began a year ago to pay off the mortgage of the new Feeding South Dakota facility in Rapid City. The leftover money went to help feed families in need.

Executive Director, Matt Gassen said building the new warehouse was long overdue as the last building was a 50's style grocery store with limited ceiling height and storage capacity.
"We continue to see a need increase in the number of people that are seeking food assistance each and every week and each and every month. So, what this facility is going to be able to do is help us be able to reach them to help struggling families to have a better life," Gassen said.
Feeding South Dakota serves 75 to 100 families every day in western South Dakota.
