Another water main break in Rapid City causes a traffic nuisance

Yet another water main break in Rapid City has caused a traffic nuisance.

This is the second water main break this year at St. Patrick Street and West Boulevard.

The first break happened at the opposite end of the street but since the debris from the repair is not yet cleaned up, driving along the street can be a hassle.

The street is still open but large patches of unpaved road leave drivers having to carefully maneuver around the area. City officials say this break was likely caused by old piping and corrosion.

"This section of street is scheduled to be redone in 2018 and at the time we will go ahead and replace the underground infrastructure, along with the street replacement." said Water Superintendent John Wagner.

The patches on the street and the water main will be repaired within the next two weeks.
