Sheriff Ron Merwin wins Meade County race for sheriff

The race for Meade County sheriff was another heated race between candidates during Tuesday's primary election.

Tuesday night, Sheriff Ron Merwin, Meade County, was declared the winner. Merwin says he is ready to continue doing the job he has loved for more than 20 years.

He says he's happy the race is over because it was long and tiring for him and his family. The sheriff says he'll continue doing what people voted for. "I'm planning on doing things the way we've been doing it," said Merwin. "Obviously people are satisfied with that and trying to provide a good service for a fair price."
Merwin beat Branden Bestgen, former Sturgis assistant chief of police, 64% to 35%.
