The Rapid City Downtown Association presented an $11,000 check to the YMCA Tuesday.
The funds came from the fourth annual Uptown Downtown Dinner and Auction fundraiser set on April fifth. Proceeds came from admission fees and artwork that was auctioned off. The money will be used to provide 140 children with one-year memberships.
Roger Gallimore, Executive Director of the YMCA, said the money will make a big difference in children's lives.
"You can see a very direct result in the fact there's a real kid, there's a real name, a real face tied to everyone. A life that's engaged in something healthy, something active, and something that otherwise they wouldn't have the opportunity," said Gallimore.
With memberships, children can participate in after school programs like day camp, play sports, and even take swimming lessons.
