RCPD: It may take days to confirm identity of fire victim

Posted:
An investigation into a shed fire where a man was found dead continued Tuesday.  Rapid City police are now saying that a preliminary autopsy report shows he died of smoke inhalation.

The fire began at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday on the 1800 block of Sioux Avenue.

First responders quickly doused the fire and then made the gruesome discovery.

No word yet on whether the fire was intentionally set or an accident.

Based on the condition of the remains, police say it may take some time to confirm his identity. When confirmation has been made and his family has been notified, they'll release that information.
