Rapid City Council members approve purchase of emergency management vehicle

Leaders of KOTA Territory emergency management crews are trying to make sure they have the right equipment if another disaster hits.
A newly approved piece of equipment will be a big part of that.
At Monday's Rapid City Council meeting, council members approved the purchase of a $95,000 track vehicle.

Fire Chief Mike Maltaverne, Rapid City, says the hand-me-down foreign war-truck he will get from a town in Colorado is one of only two in the United States. Maltaverne says the track vehicle is able to go on a number of surfaces. "It can haul 16/17 people. It would be good for getting fire fighters, police officers- getting them into the stations, doing a sweep on our interstates, or some of the areas in the community that drift real bad," said Maltaverne.

This $95,000 purchase was originally part of a much larger $663,000 emergency list. Council members voted to review the other items on the list for two more weeks, before giving the rest of the funding a green light.
