Soft turnout expected in Tuesday's primary election

South Dakota Secretary of State Jason Gant predicts a slightly above average turnout at the polls Tuesday.
He expects about 40 percent of Republicans and 20 percent of Democrats to vote.

Meanwhile, Pennington County election monitors Monday finished verifying 2,600 early ballots cast since April.
Those votes will be tabulated starting Tuesday afternoon and the results announced about one minute after polls close. The outcome of the early votes may predict the final results, said Auditor Julie Pearson. "It is a pretty good tell of who is going to win the election simply because it's a broad vote across the county. We get every precinct usually voting."
Pearson expects a little over 20 percent of the county's registered voters will participate in the election.
