United Blood Services grills for blood

By Barrett Phillips

United Blood Services joined the South Dakota Beef Industry Council Wednesday in an effort to "beef up" the blood supply by attracting more donors.

All donors could enjoy burgers and hot dogs, and they received a beef certificate.

Blood donors registered to win one of two barbecue grills or a patio set from Lowe's Home Improvement.

Donor Recruiter, Angelina Pillet said donations are crucial. "It's extremely important; it's not only the recipients that are so thankful but their family members as well. We're saving people's lives that have cancer and are going through treatment right now, premature babies that are born, mothers that have just given birth, and people who are having surgeries," said Pillet.

The beef up grilling event is a seven-year tradition.
