Rapid City elementary school rewards students with perfect attendance

Teachers want their students to have good attendance. But now kids have an extra incentive to be in class every day.

14 students at General Beadle Elementary School in Rapid City received a special gift today for having perfect attendance.

12 received a bike for perfect attendance this year. 2 others received a Kindle Fire for having perfect attendance 3 years in a row. Students with no absences or tardies were eligible to win.

Principal Cary Davis said the incentive keeps students coming back to school.

"It actually says a lot about my teachers because the teachers have bought into it. They let the kids know that they want them here in school. They know that it's important to be here. So they also push them to say, ‘Get to school, I want you here, I want you to learn and be successful’," Davis said.

Davis says each year they have more students with perfect attendance. This year they had 14. Last year they had 9.

70 kids with nearly perfect attendance received backpacks and blankets.
