Tornado touched down near Pactola Reservoir

A confirmed tornado touched down near Silver City in the Black Hills at 1:17pm Tuesday.

The tornado was spotted by a Forest Service employee. Several funnel clouds were also reported with this storm as well as hail up to tennis ball size (2.75 inches).

As the storm moved southeast it weakened, but still prompted severe thunderstorm warnings from Pactola to Mt. Rushmore to Custer State Park. In Keystone, 1.5" hail was reported at 2:30pm, and 1" hail south of Hill City.

These thunderstorms flared up in the heat of the day, isolated to the Black Hills area. Downtown Rapid City received only 0.02" of rain from this storm.
