Hot Springs man charged with rape gets new attorney, new trial date

Posted:
Randy Sparkman, 53, who was charged with rape and incest in 2012, asked for a new attorney in court Tuesday.

Seventh Circuit Judge Robert Gusinsky appointed John Murphy. Paul Branken was representing him.

Since there is a new attorney on the case, a new and later trial date was set for September.

Pennington County Deputy State's Attorney Tracey Decker asked for an earlier date, saying the victim wants a quick resolution.

But Sparkman's new attorney cannot try the case until September.

Sparkman is accused of raping a 28-year-old member of his family in 2012.

The new trial date is set for September 8 and 9.
