Free roses donated at Memorial Day service

Black Hills National Cemetery was beautifully decorated this Memorial Day weekend thanks, in part, to free roses.

Flowers by Leroy teamed up with the 'Memorial Day Flower Foundation' to provide free roses to the guests at Monday's service. The flower foundation started at Arlington cemetery in 2011, and it was brought to the Black Hills for the first time Monday. Diana Holloway, Flowers by Leroy owner, says 1,000 roses were ready to be handed out.

She says roses are symbolic of respect to those who dedicated their lives for our freedom. "Roses are a great way of paying your respects to the dead," said Holloway. "So we're giving them two roses, one for them and one to lay on a grave."
According to the Memorial Day Flower Foundation website, 88,000 roses were handed out in 32 states in 2013.
