Boating season off to a good start at Pactola Lake

Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer. And for boating enthusiasts, that means it's also time to hit the water!

For those heading up to Pactola Lake, you can expect to find good conditions for boating.

David Fisher, owner of the Pactola Pines Marina, said the lake is just below full. He said he isn't seeing a lot of fluctuation in the water level.

"Right now we're sitting just below a full lake and the beer reclamation seems to be keeping it just about a full foot below full. Inflows are higher, but the releases are higher too. That's why you're seeing rapid creek run so fast," Fisher said.

Brian Mueller was taking his son out on their boat. He said they love to spend as many weekends as they can on the water.

"We're generally on the water from the time the ice melts until it comes back, Mueller said.  We've spent some time on the water already this year. But the fishing is just starting to get good, so we'll spend a lot of time up here now."

If you're planning to be at the helm of your boat, you may want to think twice about having a beer while doing so. Fisher said Games, Fish and Parks Department officials would be out looking for people drinking and driving while on the water.
