Ruth Ross came to the Black Hills in 1948 with a group of supporters to help sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski carve a mountain tribute to Native Americans. The pair married in 1950 and raised 10 children at the Memorial, never wavering from the work on the Mountain or the development of humanitarian efforts for the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation. Korczak died in 1982 and Ruth had been CEO ever since.
