Vandenberg Elementary students help kids with cancer, give teachers a makeover

Some KOTA Territory elementary school students seized the opportunity to help other children in need, and put their teachers through a little bit of embarrassment at the same time .

As a reward for raising money for children stricken with cancer through the “Pennies for Patients” program, Vandenberg Elementary School students got to give some of their favorite teachers a make-over.

Throughout the year the students raised more than $2000 dollars in change, including $1000 just from a single student, Ethan Schommer.

School Librarian and “Pennies for Patients” Event Coordinator Nikki Larrabee says that she is proud of how selfless and caring the kids have been in helping their fellow students.

“I am very impressed that 4th graders and 5th graders could raise over $2000, bringing in pennies, nickels and dimes. It's impressive how much they care about kids they don't even know”, said Larrabee

This is the second year that Vandenberg has raised money for childhood cancer.

Last year, they brought in more than $1,400.
