Black Hills tourism operators roll out red carpet for visitors

The Rapid City Convention & Visitors Bureau opened its annual training for summer tourism hosts Thursday with a tribute to Ruth Ziolkowski, the respected leader of Crazy Horse Memorial.

In following her model for building friendships, the "Roll Out Red Carpet Customer Service" programs sought to energize participants to "Do Big Things" to help visitors beyond their needs.

Motivational speaker Brenda Clark Hamilton said customers feeling special spread positive messages across social media networks and lure new visitors to the area.
"You have so much to offer, it's just a matter of adding that people component of saying, 'Wow! When I was out here I experienced these amazing things and I felt great! The people were awesome!'" Hamilton said.
The tourism industry generates more than $810 million a year in Pennington County.
