Stay denied, Powertech moves forward with mining plans

There is no longer a temporary hold on the operating license for a proposed uranium mine near Edgemont.

The Atomic Safety and Licensing Board issued a  stay last month on the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission license granted to Powertech Uranium Corp. It was in response to claims by the Oglala Sioux Tribe and other groups that  mining activities could hurt cultural and historic sites in the Black Hills.
Powertech officials say the Nuclear Regulatory Commissions denial for a stay was expected.
