Local high school senior wins cooking competition; next is a national competition

A local high school senior is cooking up the dream of a lifetime; the opportunity to attend one of the best culinary schools in the United States on a full scholarship.
Daniele Johnston, Sturgis Brown High School, submitted an essay on why she's the future chef of America. The essay won her the chance to compete for a $5,000 scholarship to Le Cordon Bleu Culinary school in Dallas, Texas. She won first place!

Now, she'll be challenged once again to cook up the winning dish, this time for a chance to win a full-ride to the college of her dreams. "I am just blown away. Small town girl, Sturgis, South Dakota, and I won a big culinary competition in Dallas Texas," said Johnston. "It is just amazing to me and I know I wouldn't have been able to do it without the culinary program here at the high school."

Johnston will be competing May 31 in California. She says cooking runs in her family, and she's always loved food.
