Whether it's to get to work, or to just to stay healthy, bicycling in growing is Rapid City.

In celebration of National Bike to Work Day and National Bike Month, the Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department set up a station along the bike path in Founder's Park.

Here, staff offered free bacon and coffee to anyone using the path, and there were a lot of takers. This month alone, automatic counters clocked 1,200 bikes on the path.

“Biking in Rapid City is growing for recreation, but also for transportation. We're trying to expand upon our bike paths and our on-street facilities to make biking in Rapid City safer and more enjoyable,” said Alex DeSmidt, Landscape Designer for Rapid City Parks and Recreation.

Rapid City applied for a bike friendly community status thru the League of American Bicyclists, and received an honorable mention this year.
