SD Law Enforcement Torch Run raises money to help Special Olympics

It's become a yearly tradition with helping others in mind; the 26th Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics passed through downtown Rapid City Wednesday.
Starting in Sioux Falls, the "Flame of Hope" made its statewide journey, on its way to Spearfish, for the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics Summer Games.
John Cole, Assistant Director for the South Dakota Law Enforcement Torch Run said the event is designed to help raise awareness for Special Olympics as well as raise money to support athletes.

"We raise awareness to show people what Special Olympics are and how they are important to people with intellectual disabilities and help them achieve goals through sporting events," Cole said.
Last year, South Dakota law enforcement helped raise more than $570,000 for charity.
