Lane closure causes delays for drivers in Rapid City

Traffic is backed up more than usual on Jackson Boulevard in Rapid City. Drivers say it is a big inconvenience on their way to and from work.

Drivers say the problem is at the intersection of Jackson Boulevard and Sheridan Lake Road. Last week for construction purposes one of the turning lanes was shut down, and that is the cause of all the backups. The line of cars can sometimes go for blocks. Drivers in the lanes now have to take turns and wait longer.

Drivers say they feel the construction has been going on for awhile and they are tired of it. They say the traffic wears on their daily commute.

"The intersection of Sheridan Lake Road and Jackson definitely gets congested. They could work on adjusting the timing of the lights. That could help. Or find alternative routing," said Chris Rankin, a driver from Rapid City.

Officials say after permanent surfacing is complete, the turning lane will open up again. And that should be in a couple of weeks. The Jackson Boulevard construction project started in April of 2012. It is scheduled to be complete on June 28th.
