Rapid City residents react to the removal of barrier near Walmart

The road barriers that keep traffic off of a portion of Stumer and Enchantment Roads were removed Thursday morning.

Some who live in the neighborhood say it gives them easier access to this developing part of the city. Others say it will increase traffic and activity because of the nearby Walmart.
Joe Bennington, who lives in a nearby subdivision and who opposes the removal of the barriers, said he is concerned about the increased activity. He said he is disappointed that the council made a decision so quickly.

"On April 29th when the council had their first meeting proposing to take down the barriers, they made a very rash decision; I don't know if they put enough research into what the traffic flow would mean to this neighborhood, I'm more concerned about the night time traffic," said Bennington.
Jim Strain, who lives in a part of the neighborhood that benefits from the barriers being down, said he sees both sides.

"I think everybody that access that road in that part of town is at an advantage and of course that will increase the flow of traffic in that area. And, I suppose that's a disadvantage to these people who reside there," said Strain.
The City Council decided last Tuesday to remove the road barriers.
