Trinity Lutheran Church brings life to downtown Rapid City

By Barrett Phillips

Tuesday there was a ground breaking ceremony for Trinity Eco Prayer Park in downtown Rapid City. It is on the corner of 4th and St. Joseph Streets, home to the former Tip Top Motel.

Park Project Coordinator, Ken Steinkin said the park will consist of four different sections that will reflect ecosystems from the Black Hills and West River areas.

One section will have plants from the wetlands. Another will have plants from the prairies.

"Without nature we have nothing. Everything comes from nature to begin with. So, we want to keep people connected with that even though they are in a city setting," said Ken Steinkin.

The idea for an eco park came in 2009 when the church decided to make use of the half acre lot for native plants and species.
