Masons present child safety workshop at the Alex Johnson Hotel

Posted:
Child safety is a top priority for the members of the Black Hills community and for local law enforcement.

That's why members of the Grand Lodge of South Dakota held a child safety workshop on Monday at the Alex Johnson Hotel.

The purpose of the workshop was to teach parents how to keep their children safe from abuse and abduction.

Mike Rodman, junior grand warrant of the Grand Lodge of South Dakota, said the best way to keep kids safe is by prevention.

"You need to take 25 minutes and explain child safety. There’s a great website, www.take24.org, that was created by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. It has some great dialog that you can use when talking to your child about safety. It could be life saving," Rodman said.

Callahan Walsh, of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, says kids should be especially careful when on the internet.

"They shouldn't reveal too much information online. They shouldn't talk to individuals that they don't know online. And they should never meet an individual in the real world that they have met online that they don't know,” Walsh said.

If you're interested in attending one of these workshops, the next one will be held on May 15th in Sturgis.
