Supporters of SD Shared Parenting rally against child abuse

Children who become caught in a tug- of- war game between fighting parents are left emotionally damaged.
That's according to supporters of South Dakota Shared Parenting.
At a rally in downtown Rapid City, supporters of shared parenting talked about 'Parental Alienation Awareness Day.'
This day aims to tell parents who are split or in high-conflict marriages that they are abusing their child when they trash-talk a parent, refuse to allow visitation or full phone conversations, or trying to convince a child that mom or dad loves them more.

One shared-parenting supporter says stricter guidelines should be in place to prevent alienation."Really should be mindful of how you speak of the other parent in front of the children, you need to be mindful about leaving your issues between that other adult, away from the children," said Stacey Wollman.

The shared-parenting group made big strides with their agenda when Senate Bill 74 was signed by Governor Dennis Daugaard in March.
The bill will give joint-custody under certain circumstances. Supporters of the bill say shared parenting in South Dakota is rare, and they say they hope this bill will change that.
