Reptile Gardens is in the Guinness Book of World Records

Reptile Gardens in Rapid City is recognized as the world's largest reptile collection. The 2014 Guinness Book of World Records named Reptile Gardens as the largest reptile zoo in the world.

There are more than 200 species of reptiles at the zoo. John Brockelsby, Public Relations Director of Reptile Gardens, says they always thought they had the most reptiles, so to be recognized for it is exciting.

"It's just a wonderful accolade for Reptile Gardens. We are very proud of this. And we are going to strive to make sure that we keep that ranking by acquiring all sorts of new and exotic and wonderful reptiles," said Brockelsby.

Reptile Gardens started with just a handful of snakes in 1937.
