People playing the lottery will soon have a chance to redeem certain losing lottery tickets.
Beginning April 23rd, the South Dakota Lottery will be unveiling it’s “Play It Again” second chance drawing for cash and prizes.
Players Club members can enter the drawing online by entering in numbers from losing tickets from select scratch ticket games.
Lottery Executive Director Norm Lingle says the program was something people wanting another shot at redemption have been asking for.
Players and non-players alike believe that having a second chance will likely increase the number of tickets being sold. Julie Ginn of Hay Springs, NE says, "Yes, I think it would make me more likely to play the lottery. If you knew you had a 2nd chance, most of the time I feel like I donate my money, so I would definitely think that would be better.
Tammie Darnall of Rapid City does not play the lottery, but she does see the benefits to those who do, “I think it's intriguing, I think that it will make some people buy tickets more often or perhaps buy more tickets for that 2nd chance. I think it's overall a good thing."
The program will continue through December 16th with the drawing for the grand prize of $10,000 being held December 18th.
