On Tuesday, April 22, construction will continue at Exit 17 in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 near Spearfish, according to the South Dakota Department of Transportation.
Work on the newly constructed lanes in 2013, includes sawing and sealing of the concrete pavement joints, median work and site cleanup.
Eastbound traffic is currently reduced to one lane due to the reconstruction of I-90 in the westbound lanes. Eastbound traffic will continue to be reduced to one lane beyond Exit 17 while westbound traffic will not be impacted.
The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph and motorists are reminded that fines are doubled in work zones.
Motorists are asked to watch for slowing traffic, merging lanes, modified traffic patterns for exit on/off ramps, construction equipment and workers.
The anticipated completion date for this work is May 30, with additional work to occur after the 2014 Sturgis Rally the first part of August.
The prime contractor on the $12.4 million project is Heavy Constructors Inc. of Rapid City.
