Christian community celebrates Easter at Mount Rushmore

A number of Easter Sunday sunrise services took place Sunday morning across KOTA Territory.
At Mount Rushmore National Memorial, the 69th Annual Easter Sunday Sunrise Celebration took place bright and early.

At 7:00 a.m. Christians from all over came to celebrate the resurrection of Christ at Mount Rushmore.
The Easter 'Sunrise Celebration' included music, prayers and a sermon by Reverend Diane Janssen Hemmen, Hermosa United Church of Christ. She says Mount Rushmore is the perfect place to hold an Easter-Sunday service."Our expectations are simply that folks come out and that we get to enjoy both freedoms of our country in this place, and the freedoms that God has given us through the resurrection of Christ," said Janssen Hemmen. "It's just a great place to join those two themes together."
Lois Halley has been participating in the service for almost 65 years. "I think I'm needed for one thing. I still play some of the songs and I sing in the choir and I usually pick out the music and I love to be here," said Halley.

The offering collected at the service will be donated to organizations and projects that assist people in times of crisis, both locally and nationally.
