Air Force will 'replace' Ellsworth's aging B-1 bombers

by Jack Siebold, MyTown editor

The skin and skeleton of the B-1 Lancer looks no different than when the bombers first came off the assembly line in 1985.  But for today's bomber crew, it will soon be an entirely new war plane.

The fleet of 66 B-1 bombers is undergoing a massive $99.5 million upgrade in the cockpit.  "We're essentially changing the legacy instruments into a glass cockpit," Col. Kevin Kennedy, 28th Bomb Wing commander, said.
