Pennington County dispatchers are recognized for Telecommunications Week

The second full week in April is National Public Safety Telecommunications Week. It's a time to honor public safety dispatchers.

During April 14-18, emergency police, fire, and medical dispatchers are recognized. In Pennington County, as a thank you, dispatchers are given food and dispatchers of the year are named.

Leann Hollinshead, the Director of Pennington County 911, says it's important that people appreciate all of the dispatchers hard work.

"My dispatchers would tell you that they would rather not be recognized because they are behind the scenes. But it's a good time for us that are in public safety to truly give them the recognition they deserve for what they do every day," said Hollinshead.

National Public Safety Telecommunications Week was introduced to Congress in 1991.
