Registered voters have the option of Early/Absentee voting by mail or in person. Pennington County Auditor Julie Pearson said early voting opens Friday, April 18 for the Primary Election including the City of Rapid City.
"To vote absentee by mail, voters must complete an Early/Absentee ballot application, sign it and either have it notarized or provide a copy of their photo identification card when returning it," Pearson said, adding applications are also available in the office of the Pennington County Auditor as well as online at pennco.org and sdsos.gov. "Our office will then mail a paper ballot to the voter to complete and return."
Residents may also vote early in person beginning April 18 by visiting the Auditor's Office, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. The voter may complete an application for an Early/Absentee ballot and then vote the ballot. Early voting locations will also be set up at the Hill City Finance Office for voters in the Hill City area; the Box Elder Finance Office for voters in the Box Elder area; and the Wall Finance Office for voters in the Wall, Quinn, Creighton, and Scenic area.
In case of military and overseas voters, applications can be transmitted via fax or e-mail as well as by postal mail. Uniformed and overseas voters may request to have their ballots sent to them electronically by using the website www.fvap.gov.
"Our website pennco.org provides forms for voter registration and the application for Early/Absentee ballot, as well as the link to the website for military voters," Pearson said. "Voters can also check their personal registration status online at sdsos.gov through the Voter Information Portal, which is a tool allowing voters to view a sample of their ballot and check on polling location."
