Rapid City Police officers get new ride

A few Rapid City Police officers get a new ride. The Department recently purchased two $35,000 Ford Police Interceptors.

The vehicles are roomier, so two officers or an officer and a K-9 unit can comfortably ride together.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol and the Pennington County Sheriff's Office both use the interceptors.

Police Lieutenant Don Hedrick says one of the biggest benefits of the SUV is the All Wheel Drive (AWD) feature. "As we've seen with a couple of our last blizzards we do need vehicles that can get around and the AWD does allow us to get around," Lieutenant Don Hedrick said.
Most of the squad cars that are sedans now have AWD.
