Despite the harsh winter, plans to open the new Belle Joli Champagne House at Sturgis are still progressing.
According to owner, Matthew Jackson, the facility at the mouth of Vanocker Canyon should be open in mid-June.
There will be no shortage of wine, as they harvested their vineyard in Belle Fourche just before the October blizzard. The Sturgis location will also overlook their new five-acre vineyard, making for a great view.
Heidi Kruse, Executive Director of the Sturgis Chamber of Commerce, says the Champagne House is a good fit for the town.
"We think it's going to be a great asset to have a winery so close to the interstate. Certainly it will be easy access for anyone traveling here from other places, but I think it's also a great asset for those here in the Black Hills community," said Kruse.
Jackson says the winery's building will be 2,500 square feet.
