Rapid City School Board sanctions soccer

Soccer will now be a sanctioned school sport at Stevens and Central High School. Tuesday evening in a five to zero vote, the Rapid City School Board approved the resolution, and it will take effect for the 2014 to 2015 school year.

Before soccer was a club sponsored sport. Because they'll be a school sponsored sport, more schools will participate in their regular team schedule and in the state tournament. Soccer parents say this will give their kids more opportunities.

"They'll be very excited about it. They'll be able to travel together as a team and be able to travel together as a team and be able to be fully supported by the school. So that will be an exciting move for them," said Lori Storm, who has two sons who play soccer.

Saint Thomas Moore already has sanctioned soccer, and Spearfish recently sanctioned the sport.
