Food donations in Rapid City will continue as planned

By Barrett Phillips

According to a post from the Pennington County Sheriff's facebook page, this year's lousy spring weather has not stopped inmates at the Pennington County Jail from breaking ground on their garden.

Produce from the jail's garden is donated to places like the Cornerstone Mission in Rapid City. According to the post, 1,400 pounds of food from the garden went to the mission in years past.

Tom Golden, the Associate Director at the Cornerstone Mission, said the organization always needs food.

"Well it helps in a big way; especially when it's fresh produce fresh things. We're always lacking on fresh eggs, fresh milk, fruits, and vegetables," said Golden

Golden added the cornerstone mission on average feeds 500 people a day.
