Rapid City police investigate skimmers found at gas stations

Rapid City Police are investigating a series of credit card skimmers found inside gas pumps in and around Rapid City.

The skimmers are small devices placed on the pumps by thieves. The skimmers steal credit card information when the consumer swipes a debit or credit card. While several types of skimmers exist, the ones found in Rapid City so far have been placed inside the pumps, where they are not visible to consumers.

Rapid City Police are actively working with gas stations across town to identify and remove any additional skimmers. Detectives are also working to identify the persons responsible for this criminal activity.

At this time, no consumers have been identified as victims of the scam. Detectives recommend monitoring your bank accounts and credit cards for signs of fraudulent activity. If you discover fraudulent charges on your account, report it to your financial institution immediately.
