This is national work zone awareness week. Drivers are reminded to be safe, not only for the sake of highway workers but also for the drivers themselves and their passengers.
The Associated General Contractors of South Dakota are spreading the message.
Wednesday, the group unveiled "Safety Sam" a ten-foot barrel guy made from orange construction barrels.
"Safety Sam" is used by the A.G.C and its members as a visual deterrent to remind drivers to slow down in work zones.
"Construction season is in full gear and will be for the next several months. This is just one thing that the association is doing to try to raise awareness," said Lindsay Willits, Communications and Marketing Coordinator for A.G.C of South Dakota.
There are two more "Safety Sams" in the state that cover the Pierre area and eastern South Dakota.
