Douglas School District breaks ground on new Elementary School

Posted:

After six decades, Box Elder elementary school teachers and students will be in a new building.

Shovels hit the dirt Tuesday, breaking ground on the new Vandenburg Elementary School. It's located across from the Douglas Administration Building.

Douglas School District Superintendent, Doctor Loren Scheer, says the new facility will replace the old 1952 building that currently holds fourth and fifth grades.

The school will be approximately 75,000 square feet with a price tag of $14 million.

Construction will start this month.  The school will be in full use by August of 2015.
