New survey unveils visitor trends at Mount Rushmore

Who is the average visitor to Mount Rushmore? Why did he or she choose to visit the famous faces?

Tuesday afternoon, Mount Rushmore National Memorial, community leaders and people in the visitor industry poured over a survey released early this year about visitor trends.

The one-hour presentation included comparisons of data from 2006 as well as reasons for visiting, overnight stays, quality of park services, and facilities used.

Memorial Superintendent, Cheryl Schreier, said Tuesday's workshop is a chance to glean information about who is visiting Mount Rushmore and what brought them to the memorial.

"This is a destination location for people, and we're really pleased to know that 97 percent of our visitors liked Mount Rushmore. Rushmore; which really translates into that they like the Black Hills and what the Black Hills has to offer," Schreier said.
